Detailed Tyre Specifications

Tyre Size & Dimensions

The designation 195R15C breaks down as follows:

  • 195: Nominal section width in millimeters (195 mm)
  • R: Radial construction (plies run radially across the tyre)
  • 15: Fits a 15-inch diameter rim
  • C: Indicates "Commercial" use, typically for vans or light trucks

While the aspect ratio is not explicitly stated in the "R" notation, most 195R15C tyres have an implied aspect ratio of approximately 80%, meaning the sidewall height is about 80% of the 195 mm tread width (~156 mm). This taller sidewall provides better shock absorption on rough roads and improved load-carrying capability.

Load Index and Speed Rating

Although not always clearly advertised, most 195R15C Chinese tyres typically carry a load index between 106–110, translating to a maximum load capacity of 950–1060 kg per tyre. This makes them suitable for commercial vans and delivery vehicles.

Common speed ratings are R (170 km/h) or S (180 km/h), indicating safe sustained speeds under full load. These ratings ensure reliable performance for urban delivery routes and highway driving.

Note: Always check the actual sidewall marking (e.g., 195R15C 108/106R) for precise load and speed ratings. Using tyres below your vehicle’s required rating can compromise safety and legality.

Tread Depth and Wear Performance

The average tread depth of new Chinese 195R15C tyres ranges from 8 to 10 mm, which is consistent with standard commercial tyre profiles. Deeper treads enhance wet-weather grip by efficiently channeling water away, reducing the risk of hydroplaning.

These tyres are engineered with wear-resistant rubber compounds that extend service life, especially under frequent stop-start conditions typical in city logistics. A tread depth below 3 mm is considered unsafe and legally non-compliant in many countries.

Many models include built-in tread wear indicators (TWI) — small rubber bars located in the grooves — that signal when replacement is due.

Inflation Pressure Recommendations

Optimal inflation pressure for 195R15C tyres typically falls within the range of 30–35 PSI (2.0–2.4 bar), depending on load and application. Higher pressures (up to 35 PSI) are recommended when carrying heavy loads to prevent overheating and sidewall stress.

Maintaining correct tyre pressure improves fuel efficiency, ensures even tread wear, enhances steering response, and reduces the risk of blowouts. It is advisable to check pressures at least once a month and before long journeys, preferably when tyres are cold.

Construction and Materials

Chinese 195R15C tyres are constructed using high-quality synthetic rubber blends, steel belts, and reinforced polyester or nylon cord plies. The sidewalls are strengthened to handle the rigors of commercial use, including potholes, curbs, and uneven loading.

The use of silica-enhanced tread compounds improves traction in wet conditions while maintaining low rolling resistance for better fuel economy. These materials also contribute to longer tread life and reduced heat buildup during prolonged operation.

Tread Pattern and Performance Variants

Manufacturers offer various tread designs tailored to specific driving environments:

  • All-Season: Balanced grooves for year-round use
  • Winter/Snow: Deep sipes and zigzag grooves for icy roads
  • High-Mileage Commercial: Dense center ribs for even wear and durability
  • Off-Road/All-Terrain: Aggressive shoulder blocks for loose surfaces

These patterns are optimized for grip, noise reduction, and water dispersion, ensuring stability and comfort across diverse road conditions.
